Hi, I’m Krista !
I am a second-generation Filipina American that was born and raised in L.A. to immigrant parents. I am a huge Lakers fan, a millenial dog mom, and my favorite food is sushi and Filipino/Vietnamese food.
In 2016, my mom died abruptly and my world turned upside down. I had no idea what to do with my grief and I also felt “crazy” because emotions and mental health were so foreign to me as a daughter of an immigrant. I was never taught how to connect and cope with my emotions and I struggled A LOT. Then I went to therapy, again something SO foreign, because I was tired of feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, helpless, depressed, and anxious all the time.
Fast forward a couple of years and now I am currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who is very passionate about helping those in similar situations.
I help teens, adults, and couples through their grief, traumatic experiences, BIPOC/AAPI cultural challenges, anxiety, and relationship issues.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all and I use an integrative postmodern approach to therapy based on my clients’ unique set of values and lifestyles.
I received a Ph.D. in Couple & Family Therapy at Antioch University New England and currently an adjunct faculty member and AAMFT approved supervisor. My current research interests are the mental health effects of bicultural stress (navigating two cultures) experienced by second-generation AAPI/Filipino-Americans (U.S. born, with at least one immigrant parent).
I truly believe that everyone deserves access to quality psychotherapy services.
I am so excited to work with you!
